Queens of the Stone Age Background

Queens of the Stone Age got its start in 1996 in Palm Desert, California. Originally, the band called itself Gamma Ray. However, a German metal group already had this name, so Queens of the Stone Age was born. This name came from the nickname of Josh Homme's previous band, Kyuss. The band's musical style is influenced by many rock and metal genres, with macho and German rock styles commonly attributed to it. Later albums incorporate electronic and dance music influences. Queens of the Stone Age had their first concert in Seattle, Washington at the OK Hotel on November 20, 1997. Once they released their self-titled album Queens of the Stone Age, they started touring in 1998. They had their big break when they released their second album, Rated R, in 2000 and got the opportunity to open for Foo Fighters, The Smashing Pumpkins and other high-profile bands. An invite for Ozzfest 2000 came shortly after.

QOTSA never fail to deliver. Opening act Royal Blood were awesome. They set the stage incredibly well. Josh Homme was chill and raring to go. Dean Fertita was amazing. Troy is the coolest dude ever! Thanks to Josh, Mikey has more birthdays than are humanly possible. Jon Theodore kept everyone grounded. Firefly was an amazing venue that made it seem like we were at a great backyard barbecue rather than a commercial location.

  • Great show all around.

  • Great Live Band

    by D.D. on 5/20/24Hard Rock Live - HollywoodRating: 5 out of 5

I am only familiar with the first five albums but it was well worth it. Super great band at this point and the song choices did well for a very spontaneous show. Very positive free environment with lots of smiling dancing and laughing. Great way to hear a lot of the new material. It would be well worth it to do a set focused on Songs for the Deaf but I'm sure you already know that. The Harmony sounded great on the new songs. Both guitar and vocals.

  • Turned up to 11!?!?!?!

by Joe on 5/15/24Live Oak Bank Pavilion - WilmingtonRating: 3 out of 5

The opener royal blood crushed their set; from start to finish. Queens of the stone age came out and it was so loud that the music was extremely distorted and difficult to discern guitars from bass and bass from drums.. wasn't until the final 45 min that someone FINALLY turned down the speakers.

  • They rocked it

Queen of the Stone Age put on an electrifying performance that left the audience in awe. From the moment they took the stage, the energy in the venue soared to new heights. Josh Homme's commanding presence was captivating, and the band's musicianship was impeccable. They flawlessly executed each song, infusing them with raw power and intensity. The guitar riffs were explosive, the drum beats thunderous, and the basslines pulsated through the crowd. Overall, Queens of the Stone Age delivered a rock-solid performance that exceeded all expectations. If you have the chance to see them live, don't hesitate—they are an absolute powerhouse on stage
