Toronto FC History

Toronto FC played their first season in 2007 and became a perennial MLS Cup playoff contender after adding Italian soccer star Sebastian Giovinco in 2015. In his first year with the team, Giovinco became the first Toronto FC player to win MLS' Golden Boot, MVP and Newcomer of the Year awards, en route to the team's first-ever playoff berth. The team reached further success the following year by reaching the MLS Cup Final, then won the championship in 2017. That victory, coupled with their winning of the Canadian Championship and Supporters' Shield matches earlier in the year, made Toronto FC the first team in Major League Soccer history to complete the rare feat known as the domestic treble.

Toronto FC have been most dominant in the annual Canadian Championship, in which the club has taken home the Voyageurs Cup eight times, including in 2020. Individual player accolades include Rookie of the Year for midfielder Maurice Edu in 2007 and Most Valuable Player for attacking midfielder Alejandro Pozuelo in 2020.

Toronto FC at BMO Field

Toronto FC is the city's first Major League Soccer team and the first Canadian team in the league. When BMO Field, the team's home stadium, opened in 2007, it was already the largest soccer-specific stadium in Canada. The venue has since expanded to accommodate over 30,000 fans. The Eastern Conference team's most vocal and visible supporters club, the Red Patch Boys, started rallying online back in 2006 before the team had even played its first match.

  • Amazing

by Tea spoon on 8/17/22BMO Field - TorontoRating: 5 out of 5

I took my 9 year old son. It’s a family friendly atmosphere. Definitely going again

  • Constant traffic

    by Section 203 on 8/16/22BMO Field - TorontoRating: 2 out of 5

I loved the idea of my family of 4 having a set of seats with no one on either side, but the constant traffic of people walking up and and down the stairs significantly interrupted our enjoyment of the game. People need to be more courteous and wait for a break in play or not stand in the stairways trying to find their seats, while blocking the other paying ticket attendees from enjoying the game. Additionally, this could have been mitigated to some degree by the BMO Field ushers preventing entry during significant play. The few parts of the game we were able to view with little disruption were great. Other than the obstruction of people in the stairs, the seats were decent for the cost.

  • Fantastic

    by rgw322 on 7/26/22BMO Field - TorontoRating: 5 out of 5

The Toronto FC game was a fantastic experience for my son's and I. We're primarily a hockey family yet found this to be a terrific atmosphere and really fun. We'd all highly recommend BMO Field and the Toronto FC to any sports fan of any age.

  • First TFC experience

by DrummerGirl on 7/26/22BMO Field - TorontoRating: 5 out of 5

Glad to see the whole experience wasn't over the top. Toronto fans who go to soccer games are serious about their soccer HANDS DOWN! It was great to hear the tribal drums playing throughout the game to keep the momentum going. If it takes more than 5mins for an injury... just get the player off the field for their own safety, IMHO. Not sure how safe post fireworks smoke is over the field? BMO field is a great venue. Nice and open. Sorry to see so few masks worn. I had no choice myself. It would have been nice to see a higher calibre of soccer. I played competitive soccer for over 15 years, coached by those who went pro, and we had better control of the game. Exiting the venue was a bit frantic and could have been better organized in the dark. I still give it 5/5 - Glad we have a team in the 6ix.

  • Parking

by Sandra on 7/19/22Rating: 5 out of 5

Everything is fine, but the $30 parking is crazy🤬

  • About right for an MLS game

    by Juan P on 7/5/22BMO Field - TorontoRating: 2 out of 5

The venue is really nice and the experience is fun as well. However, the soccer quality was very poor, some of the worst I’ve seen so if you’re a soccer fan looking to watch some professional quality soccer like the one you see on TV…save your money you won’t find it in the MLS

  • Disappointed

    by X—Larg on 5/18/22BMO Field - TorontoRating: 2 out of 5

The team needs more good players. The midfield is poor, the number is not receiving any ball from the flankers and midfielders

  • Parking

by KateD on 5/3/22BMO Field - TorontoRating: 5 out of 5

Watching the game was great. Not happy to pay $30.00 for parking for two and a half hours. Won’t ever do that again!

  • Rip off

by Ogulcan on 9/17/21BMO Field - TorontoRating: 1 out of 5

They put out an option for insurance without any price, after paying everyting the insırance price comes after by another e-mail and I called allience 4 times and they couldn't cancel it...

  • So much for COVID prototols

by sammyb on 8/17/21BMO Field - TorontoRating: 3 out of 5

Game was great, yeah but when 90% of the people in the auditorium aren't wearing their masks and you are jammed in like sardines, kind of defeats the purpose of saying you've put covid protocols in place. Oh, and when the guest services number doesn't actually work, that's a problem.

  • Amazing experience

by Elvesta on 3/10/20BMO Field - TorontoRating: 5 out of 5

I loved the stadium, the fans were amazing and the experience was thrilling. I had a great time, although it was really cold out there, it was worth every penny spent.

by MsSBee on 8/18/18BMO Field - TorontoRating: 5 out of 5

I rarely ever miss a TFC home game so I may be a bit biased but the game was awesome! The crowd was awesome. Our seats were awesome! The goals were awesome —But best of all ... OUR REDS WINNING THE CANADIAN CHAMPIONSHIPS WAS AWESOME!

  • Great Experience

    by Rosscoe187 on 8/18/18BMO Field - TorontoRating: 5 out of 5

  • Chivas Won!!!!!

    by Weeknd17 on 4/20/18BMO Field - TorontoRating: 5 out of 5

The stadium is in really good shape, but it’s really hard to find the right gate. However, the game was awesome!! Chivas beat Toronto FC and I couldn’t be happier. Although there were mostly TFC fans, all were respectful and I could loudly celebrate Chivas’ goals without any of the fans getting violent. A good family atmosphere at the stadium.
