I went to see Ryan Adams in Charleston,SC 6/22/2024. It was a sold out show. He played from 8:15 to 11:30 and it was magical! He told stories, chatted with crowd and made up song on the spot. Ryan told stories about living in the Chelsea Hotel and about how 16 days is about the movie Silkwood. Before he played Wrecking Ball he talked about how he had written it about his grandmother’s passing. There wasn’t a dry eye around me by the time he finished playing it. He was a “real” person just hanging out for the night and bringing all of us along for the ride. His set list was spot on - as always - and he threw in a couple covers. Because “music should be shared with everyone”. Ryan has the ability to hold a crowd captive with his music. The crowd hung onto every note. I have been a fan for a long time and I have seen Ryan about a dozen times (I know not that much). I can honestly say it was the best concert of his I have been to. It was also the best concert I have been to in the last few years. It was so wonderful to be “in the moment” and sharing that collective experience with everyone around me and especially with my daughter. The concert was at the newly reopened Rivera Theatre, Charleston, S.C. It is a perfect place for a concert. It is a small intimate setting. The staff was amazing and friendly. They even let Ryan play as long as he wanted to- what venue does that anymore? It was the first concert I have been to in about 10 years when half the crowd wasn’t talking. I even had the chance to meet Ryan after the show and he was so sweet and nice. My daughter was a casual fan, but she turned into a super fan over night.
Ryan Adams in an intimate setting was unbelievable. He interacted with the audience throughout the show which added a special touch. Ryan played for 3.5 hours and sounded fantastic. Thanks Ryan for giving us a special night to remember.
Ryan gave us all a fantastic performance of some of his most popular songs. It was an emotional rollercoaster from the beginning until the end. At times you could hear a pin drop as everyone listened intently, soaking up the experience. At other times he had us all laughing our a$*#& off. He spoke to us on and off throughout the entire concert and played for three and a half hours straight. No breaks at all. You don’t see that much anymore. All in all, a marvelous show and a great experience. I’d recommend that anyone who is a fan at any level, go see him. Thanks Ryan!
Over three hours of Ryan- no intermissions. Heaven. The acoustics were great. Perfect show.
I have been telling people about this concert in a way that would resemble watching Mozart compose a symphony, hearing Nina Simone at Newport OR watching and hearing Bach at the organ! Ryan Adams is clearly a genius in many ways and I will go hear him again in the future. My butt though could not handle the 3 1/2 hour show. Just cut a few and it would have been one of the most amazing yet for me!!!
What a great show!! 3 1/2 hours of great music! Ryan is extremely talented!
have been a whiskeytown/ryan adams fan for many years and have had a chance to see both through the years. have also had ryan cancel several shows on me over the same time. his rants/raves/tantrums/idiosyncracies are the stuff of legend but at the same time he has given us some of the best songwriting of the last 25 years-madness meets genius. the raleigh show on friday 6/21 was all of the above. most of our most brilliant artists through time have battled a variety of demons and that is what fuels the art, in some cases. some slayed the demons and went on to produce the most amazing art of their careers; some never could and left us way too soon but with amazing bodies of work. i have never been quite sure where the person begins/ends vs the live antics with ryan but it was always fascinating to be along for the ride with him-because of the music. you have to hope as he approaches 50, is now sober, can get serious about the battle and stay with us a long time and keep making great music. having said all that, 3 1/2 hours of his songs; solo acoustic, was just amazing! alternating between piano, sitting or standing and playing the guitar. the rants on various people in his past became a little tiresome and in my opinion, a little adolescent, particularly when it had nothing to do with a particular song, which really none seemed to do. no of us are perfect, have made many mistakes and are all dealing with something; some more than most. fortunately in today's world it is easier to talk about, get help with and hopefully lighten the burden in some way. i am pulling for ryan to keep making music, sharing it with us and find some peace in the mad, mad world we live in
We definitely got the full Ryan Adams experience - complete with griping at the audience, telling long stories with no point, and generally just spitting out any random thing that comes into his head. But that doesn't take away from the fact that he's an amazing live performer, and did a massive amount of his solo songs including most of his more popular songs.
Ryan’s solo show was so good! Forty songs, very vulnerable, voice was beautiful even with no breaks. Loved it.
One of a kind night with the DRA. Will never forget it.
Don't miss this tour. Seen him probably 20 times and this was one of my favorites.
Not many artists give you your moneys worth these days but Ryan sure did!! 3 hours is unheard of these days. Loved it!!
I’ve seen Ryan live 3 times and I can’t get enough. His voice is incredibly captivating. At his last acoustic solo tour, I teared up multiple times. He draws you in and adds humor into the show. I can’t recommend him enough, especially if he is playing an acoustic show, get tickets!
Ryan played a 3 hour set with the Cardinals, on what likely is their last tour. He was very funny, telling stories/stream of consciousness between songs, band was on fire. Highly recommended
We drove from Tallahassee, FL to see Ryan and the Cardinals... What a great trip and show. Not only did they ROCK one of the coolest venues, but we got to visit a city we've never been to. Totally enjoyed the show!
Not his best show. Didn’t play many favorites and each song lasted a lot 15-20 min. Disappointed.
We left at just shy of an hour and that was too long! I don't know when Ryan Adams and the Cardinals became a "jam session"band but that was the worst. The lights and smoke just made it all that much worse. It could have been anybody up on that stage and we would have never known. This is my third attempt to post a review because people really need to be fair warned. The only decent thing to come out of that evening was the t-shirt.
I’ve been a Ryan Adams fan for many years and this is my first time seeing him live. I knew going in that this was a Cardinals show, not a greatest hits show. I thought it was freakin great. I wish there was a better turnout, but it’s been a while since Ryan was known for anything good. The band was tight and looked like they were having a good time.
Was a loyal true fan for decades. Saw him every time he came to Florida. He either hates Florida or is completely disrespectful of his fans. Stopped his show early in Miami Beach because he didn’t like how loud the audience was. Insulted the entire crowd with “best crowd ever”for before leaving. Then in Fort lauderdale he decided to make the audience uncomfortable because he says someone shined a light in his eyes, concert ehh. Orlando with the Cardinals a joke. Played Jamband versions of a handful of songs that were hardly recognizable. Decided to yell at a guy in audience about something having to do with a song request. Couldn’t see anything but neon signs and smoke for 2 hours. Should have left early. Now we said let’s give his solo tour a try. Nope cancelled today because he wasn’t feeling it. But promised to be back with more cardinals jam band stuff at red rocks. Never again pal.
