‘60s psych-pop family band the Cowsills inspire more than just revelry with their air-tight harmonies – the group was also the inspiration for the legendary Partridge Family TV show, which was loosely based on the prodigious talent of the group’s young siblings. While some of the band’s founding members have passed away in the course of their half-century together, the Cowsills have kept it a family affair, filling musical roles with their children, spouses, and other kin. On their 2013 tour dates, the band delivered delightfully nostalgic performances of hits like “The Rain, The Park & Other Things” and “Hair” amid friendly banter and familial ribbing between members, setting hopes high for another round of feel-good shows in 2014.
BACKGROUND SNAPSHOT:
The Cowsills were formed in 1965 by brothers Bill, Bob, Barry, and John, expanding to six siblings ranging from 8 to 19 years old by the time of their 1967 US No. 2 hit “The Rain, The Park & Other Things.” An overnight sensation as much for their precocity as for the novelty of the band’s configuration, the Cowsills rode a wave of popular success that eventually inspired the Partridge Family TV show. As one of the most popular and dedicated acts on the road in the late ‘60s, the band established a legacy that has served them well over the years, allowing them to weather breakups, make-ups, and more than a half-century of shifting family lineups. During that time, they’ve lost none of the wide-eyed, harmony-filled wonder that made them famous, continuing to thrill audiences on tour in 2014.
Absolutely awesome concert! Made me feel 14 again.
They were amazing. Really appreciate the opportunity to purchase merchandise also. They were so grateful of their fans. They did a really good job. Cant wait to see them again!
The Cowsills were fun. The harmonies were amazing! We’d love to see them again
Cowsills are true professionals - their voices are still going strong and their performance keeps getting better! They give it 110%, hosting a Q&A to converse with the audience, as well as an after the show meet and greet. They remind us the way we wish all concerts would be!
Not enough people take the Cowsills seriously. This family band created when they were infants and teenagers, is filled with finely crafted musicians. Sure they only have four solid hits of their own, but those hits stand for a generation that simply needs to hear their own music again, since it was so good! That is where the Cowsills also shine. They take hits from other bands and using their heralded harmony and talented instrumental arrangements to deliver the music the way you want to hear it. This has become my favorite band, not just because they are fun people, not just because they represent a family unit that has worked together for over 50 years, and not just because they play songs I like. Its because they play so damn well together!
My wife and I just love the Cowsills. The entire show was upbeat and very enjoyable. They had a question and answer session that was very informative about the family. This is your best bang for the buck if you love the oldies groups. The Nugget venue was outstanding and there was not a bad seat on the house. If you like the Cowsills music of the past, this is the concert for you as you won't be disappointed. We enjoyed it so much, we will return to see the Cowsills again.
Such a fun night! I loved the stories. They were very funny, talented and entertaining.
What a night! Fantastic experience seeing The Cowsills at the Golden Nugget. Their harmony, the fun sibling banter and the song selection was a show I'll remember for a very long time. The meet and great tells you how much they love their fans too.
