About

TOMMY JAMES AND THE SHONDELLS IN CONCERT:

The bubblegum pop movement of the '60s wouldn't have been the same without the beloved tunes of Tommy James and the Shondells, whose prominent music took off during the height of the era. It's been almost 50 years since the release of their 1966 debut Hanky Panky, but the band is still impressing audiences across the nation with their expansive catalog of upbeat classics. His voice still on-point and smooth as ever, Tommy James and the gang hit the road once again for a nostalgia-heavy 2014 tour.

BACKGROUND SNAPSHOT:

After dabbling in several musical projects as a preteen, Tommy James recorded his first demo "Hanky Panky" under the formal name The Shondells in 1964. The song wasn't an initial hit, but it achieved popularity the following year when it was unearthed by a local dance promoter, launching Tommy and the Shondells onto the music radar. Their 1966 debut album Hanky Panky skyrocketed the title single to commercial success, landing on the Billboard Hot 100 chart and garnering the band national attention. Seven more successful albums followed as Tommy and the Shondells racked up twelve Top 40 hits and another chart-topper, "Crimson and Clover." James set out on a solo venture in 1971, attaining success once more with 23 gold singles and nine gold and platinum-certified albums. Reunited in 2014, Tommy and the Shondells are ready to turn back the clock on a string of highly anticipated tour dates.

FANS WHO BOUGHT TICKETS SAY:

"What a voice –Tommy James can sing, and he's an amazing performer and guitarist."

"This show was excellent! The best concert I have been to in a long time. Will go see him again when he comes back in town."

  • Absolutely amazing!!

by Crimson & Clover on 6/8/25Morrison Center for the Performing Arts - BoiseRating: 5 out of 5

Tommy and his Shondells were phenomenal!! I knew I was going to thoroughly enjoy the concert, because I've been a huge T.J. & The Shondells fan since I was young, but I was absolutely blown away!! They sounded even better than they did back in the '60's, thanks to today's superior sound equipment and the awesome acoustics of the Morrison Center. Tommy's energy and love for his music and fans is nothing short of enviably amazing! One of the many things that impressed me was how Tommy instilled his love for the music in his bandmates -- their energy level and enthusiasm mirrors Tommy's, and they obviously enjoy Tommy's music every bit as much as the original Shondells. Tommy's new lead guitarist, John, absolutely WAILS on his guitar! I could listen to him all night! The members of the band meld into one mesmerizing rhapsody, as they flawlessly capture the original essence of every one of Tommy's incredible repertoire of hits, one after another, after another. Tommy is still the same remarkably humble star that I remember him as -- coming down off of the stage and working his way through the legions of adoring fans, shaking hands, graciously receiving an occasional kiss, and making us all realize how much he truly appreciates each and every one of us! This was so much more than just a concert -- this was a surreal, enchanted journey back to better days, and I sincerely thank Tommy and his Shondells for an unbelievably captivating evening. I would gladly travel across the continent, and probably will, for another one of Tommy's engaging performances. ~ Dale Corson, Boise, Idaho ~

I purchased the tickets to see the Association, love them!! What a GREAT surprise was Tommy James. I knew his songs but never focused on his music, like I did the Association. I could ot stop singing his songs in my head. Very gracious performer with coming thru the audience to meet his fans. You don't see that with the new generation of performers. Thank you again for stopping by Boise, REALLY enjoyed the show.

Tommy James and the Shondell’s were amazing. Still had great voices and music for a group that formed in 1964. I was impressed by their performance. Sadly I did not have the same feelings about the Association who played before. The songs were memorable but the actual sound performance was not very enjoyable

  • Pleasantly surprised!

  • The concert was great.

Can't believe Tommy James can still sing so well. I could not tell the difference between the younger version and his age now. I would definitely go see him again. Many singers loose it, at least somewhat, as they get older, he has not.

  • Outstanding Rock and Roll

Could not stay quiet in my seat. Moving with the music of the 60's.

It's great to hear the original legend do all of his great hits I grew up listening to on the radio, and danced to in high school. His music is timeless!
