About Rock the River

There's no better way to spend a hot, sticky August afternoon and evening than at the lush grounds of Saskatoon's Delta Bessborough Gardens for some killer classic rock. One of Saskatchewan's biggest summer music festivals, Rock the River debuted to a sold-out crowd on the waterfront lawn of the plush Delta Bessborough Hotel in 2014, and continues to bring in rock fans of all ages every summer. Presented by Rock 102 FM, the three-day event occurs each year in mid-August and offers a lineup of bands with the type of hits that will bring on some serious nostalgia, especially for lovers of 1970s and ‘80s rock.

This is a rare chance to hear beloved tunes like Loverboy's "Working for the Weekend," Quiet Riot's "Cum on Feel the Noize," Men Without Hat's "The Safety Dance," and Blue Oyster Cult's "(Don't Fear) The Reaper." Other Rock the River performers have included The Romantics, Pat Travers, Colin James, Nazareth, Platinum Blonde, Little River Band, Chilliwack, Kim Mitchell, Trooper, Sweet, Streetheart and Honeymoon Suite, Toronto, Nick Gilder and Sweeney Todd, Mark Farner of Grand Funk Railroad, and more. All performances happen on one stage, meaning you can see every band on the lineup if you desire. Aside from the music, there will be plenty of good food and drinks available to keep you satiated from early Friday evening to late Sunday night.

The festival's central downtown location is ideal for anyone making a full trip to Saskatoon for the weekend. It's even possible to book a room right at the Delta Bessborough Hotel for easy access to each day's events. You can purchase a single day pass or devote the whole weekend to rocking out with a three-day pass. Every year, both sell out quickly, so be sure to nab tickets for the upcoming Rock the River festival as soon as you can.

  • Fun time

Was a great evening lots of people the only thing that didn’t give it 5 stars was the booze selection sucked :)

  • Friday Night

by HL on 8/20/24Delta Bessborough Gardens - SaskatoonRating: 4 out of 5

Bands were awesome but as usual, the line up for drink tickets were slow as is every year. Why isn’t the Bessborough on top of this? It’s the same every year. Other than that, the bands did not disappoint!

  • Great music, logistical nightmare

by Paul on 8/19/24Delta Bessborough Gardens - SaskatoonRating: 2 out of 5

To start, it was way overcrowded. It feels as though they oversold the shows. Next, there was a total lack of signage to show where things like ticket booths, concessions and drinks were. It was not clear what was at the end of each long lineup. Lastly, they placed the merch tent right in the middle of the seating area. This cut down sightlines for just about half the attendees, and as there is just one staircase going down to the seating area, it was constantly blocked by the line going to the merch tent. The music was great, the acts booked were great, but the experience was nothing short of terrible.

  • Cover bands

by Stoon on 8/19/24Delta Bessborough Gardens - SaskatoonRating: 1 out of 5

I started going to Rock the River from the start and I have to say this will be the last one. Its getting too expensive( tickets, alcohol, food) and I dont want to pay that kind of money for a cover band!

  • Music was great

Poor ticket selling booths and long lineups. Food lineup too long. Get it together I'm sure you folks heard this before

  • Over Sold (No where to sit)

by Chris on 8/19/24Delta Bessborough Gardens - SaskatoonRating: 2 out of 5

Organizer over sold the Friday so there was no where to sit - Long Line Ups for Bathrooms (people were peeing against trees) - Alcohol was watered down (watched that) - Not worth the $9 a drink. Stampeders and Trooper were awesome Nazareth was ok

  • Good but could be even better

by Mel on 8/25/23Rating: 3 out of 5

Please have bathrooms available on both sides. And please have more portable ticket distributors, or have a tap option to get drinks directly. Thanks

  • Too crowded!

    by T.Anderson on 8/25/23Rating: 3 out of 5

Excellent venue! Great music! Way too crowded with the extra 500 tickets sold; caused tension between attendees. Disappointed Myles was not there with April Wine but Brian, Richard, Roy, & Marc sounded great and gave the crowd a great show! Much thanks to all the bands for another great weekend - love to all of you for still rocking it.

  • Not so organized

by Kmac on 8/24/23Rating: 3 out of 5

I've been to several events at this venue and it seemed poorly organized this time around. There were big lineups for tickets, then drinks and only one set of washrooms. I really wanted to see Gowan and he was worth every penny, I'm not sure I would have spent much to see any of the other acts.
