About

The multimedia project Kraftwerk was started in 1970 by Ralf Hütter and Florian Schneider.  They set up their electronic Kling Klang Studio in Düsseldorf, Germany, where they conceived and produced all Kraftwerk albums.  By the mid 1970’s Kraftwerk had achieved international recognition for their revolutionary electronic ssoundscapes and their musical experimentation with robotics and other technical innovations.  With their visions of the future, Kraftwerk created the soundtrack for the digital age of the 21st century.  Their compositions, using innovative techniques, synthetic voices and computerised rhythms, have had a major international influence across an entire range of music genres: from electro to hip hop, from techno to synthpop.

In their live performances, Kraftwerk – Ralf Hütter, Henning Schmitz, Fritz Hilpert,  Falk Grieffenhagen – illustrate their belief in the respective contributions of both man and machine.

Starting with the retrospective of their Catalogue at the Museum of Modern Art in New York in 2012, in recent years Kraftwerk have returned full circle back to their origins within the Düsseldorf art scene of the late Sixties. Bringing together music and perfomance art, their 3-D concerts are a true  "Gesamtkunstwerk – a total work of art.”  The concert series at the MoMA was - among others - followed by further presentations at Tate Modern Turbine Hall in London, Akasaka Blitz in Tokyo, the Opera House in Sydney, the Walt Disney Concert Hall in Los Angeles, and the Neue Nationalgalerie in Berlin.

In 2014 Ralf Hütter and his former partner were honoured with the Grammy Lifetime Achievement Award.

  • Kraftwerk = Computer Love

    by Lisa D on 4/22/25Greek Theatre-U.C. Berkeley - BerkeleyRating: 5 out of 5

I have loved Kraftwerk for years and never seen them live, and it was pure bliss. To feel that deep bass in my bones was magic. Their uplifting beats combined with gut wrenching references to modern catastrophes is just timeless. Great visuals--who needs psychedelics!

  • It Never Gets Old

    by Jokiex on 4/22/25Greek Theatre-U.C. Berkeley - BerkeleyRating: 5 out of 5

This was my fifth Kraftwerk show since 1997. I will go to their shows as long as they perform them! The visuals with the music are outstanding! It's eye candy and brain food all at once. Their music is profound yet humble. The charming visuals enhance and clarify the lyrics while it all stays abstract. I look forward to my subsequent Kraftwerk encounter!

  • Great Venue / Classic Techno Band

    by Bill on 4/21/25Greek Theatre-U.C. Berkeley - BerkeleyRating: 4 out of 5

We had great seats in section 3. Kraftwerk does not have the greatest stage presence, but the acoustics were wonderful and it was great to hear their classic songs.

  • Spectacular!

    by Lin on 4/21/25Greek Theatre-U.C. Berkeley - BerkeleyRating: 5 out of 5

Fifty years of innovative music-making -- still as relevant now as in the late 70's. Greek Theater was the perfect venue.

  • Kraftwerk never disappoints

    by G K on 4/21/25Greek Theatre-U.C. Berkeley - BerkeleyRating: 5 out of 5

The music was nearly all fan favorites. The graphics were riveting. Their colorful lit suits modernized. The sound system was just perfect. Great crowd energy from dedicated fans. The Greek Theater venue was chilly as expected in April.

  • Fantastic experience

Amazing show, acoustics were top notch, visuals were great, and the event organization was excellent - minimal queuing even though the show was almost sold out.

  • Visually Entertaining and Great Music

    by Noseybear on 4/21/25Greek Theatre-U.C. Berkeley - BerkeleyRating: 5 out of 5

The show was terrific, if just a tad long. The music is iconic, but the visuals really made it entertaining. The audience loved it!

  • Truly epic

Such an amazing experience to see these innovators of the electronic genre at the Greek Theater in Berkeley. Loved it!

  • Blown away

by SidK on 4/19/25Grand Sierra Resort and Casino - RenoRating: 5 out of 5

I’ve been a Kraftwerk fan since the 70s (yeah I’m old) but never seen them live. The 2025 multimedia tour completely exceeded my expectations. The song selections spanned their entire catalog, but with updated music and sound. The sound was LOUD but not distorted at all, and when combined with the vivid multimedia content it made for a mind blowing experience! My hair was standing on end through most of the show, partly from excitement, partly from sound vibrations! Not all songs were winners, notably “Autobahn” with its cheesy graphics, although it is a rather cheesy song to begin with. Truly amazing what a group of old German guys can accomplish, a stellar performance from one of the pioneers of popular electronic music!

  • Amazing show

by Jilk on 4/14/25Grand Sierra Resort and Casino - RenoRating: 5 out of 5

After all these years, these guys still got it and still incredibly relevant. Many classics were done but with a lot of new layers, beats and sampling. Also amazing to learn they are still mixing all of this live during the show. The video experience was also incredible. Got to see these guys, the foundation for EDM, pop and most modern music.
