Ethel Cain is the creation of Florida-born multidisciplinary artist Hayden Anhedönia. After years spent teaching herself to produce at home in the Florida panhandle and releasing various projects, Cain moved to Indiana and singlehandedly wrote, produced, recorded and mixed her acclaimed 2021 EP Inbred from the basement of the old church where she lived. After returning to the South, this time to Alabama, Cain's groundbreaking debut album Preacher's Daughter was released in May 2022. A multimedia work that took more than four years to assemble, the record was met with praise from The New York Times, NPR, Vogue, W Magazine, V Magazine and more, with many critics naming the album one of the best of the year.
Perverts, Cain's first body of work since releasing her debut album, was conceived in Coraopolis, PA and completed in Tallahassee, FL. The project was released in January 2025 and explores Cain's furthest afield inspirations and sonic negative space, mining drone, noise, slowcore, ambient and beyond. Written, produced, recorded and mixed entirely by Cain, this pivotal project received critical acclaim for its challenging sonic landscape and unflinching production style, expanding the borders of the Ethel Cain world as it previously stood.
Cain has spent the years since releasing Preacher's Daughter playing sold out shows and packed festival sets around the world; walking in New York and Paris fashion weeks and collaborating with Givenchy, Miu Miu and Calvin Klein, as well as collaborating and sharing stages with Florence + the Machine, Mitski and more. Cain returns to the stage in 2025 to unveil her new album, Willoughby Tucker, I'll Always Love You, which serves as a prequel story to Preacher's Daughter.
best artist ever seen live, all live vocals and overall amazing.
she’s the most amazing musician ever and her life performances are EXTRAORDINARY. voice is like the sound of angels. i love her so much you won’t regret seeing her!!!
her music is like you’re waking up after death and you’re rising to heaven and watching you memories and life fly by as you’re rising and her music plays in the backround
She sang all the hits.. served us southern baptist basement trapped haim sister realness.. 10s across the board.
her voice is just soooo good live i’m so glad we got a good view along the barricade, nice and cool spot! dying to see her again🩵
I could not believe it when she came onto the stage. She was so humble and modest it seemed. There’s little to no deviation from her vocals on the recorded tracks and live. Ethel also took time to pause songs to ensure audience safety. I cried multiple times at how beautiful and haunting her voice was. If I could, I would be her roadie and go to every show lol
Ethel Cain’s music has changed my life. Specifically how I view life in terms of religion and spirituality. Getting to hear Sun Bleached Flies, the song that helped me cope through all my religious trauma and express my feelings freely, was such a transformative moment for me. Then hearing American Teenager and seeing everyone so united and jumping up and down with their fists up in the air was so beautiful. Her concert was overall a cathartic experience for me and I really can’t believe we have someone as talented as Hayden in our lifetime.
Hayden the woman that you are. She is a MUST SEE artist. I genuinely have never had such an amazing concert experience. I was barricade for the NY show and getting stared at while she sang Gibson Girl may have rewired my brain. I love you Hayden ♡
the most ethereal performance i’ve ever been to, hayden casts a healing spell over all who hear her 🤎
The Ethel Cain experience is one you’re going to have to experience for yourself. Her vocals irl are insane!!! She knows how to captivate a room. I swear I was brought to tears when she sang “Family Tree”. I couldn’t have asked for a better experience truly.
